Stings players and families turned out in droves, almost fully packing the stands as the two teams fought to a 1-1 draw.

“I think it’s important for our players to see college athletes who were once in their shoes and have gone on to play at the next level,” said Sting’s Lubbock Club Director Jose Alvarado. “It’s even more special that every year, Texas Tech has a few Sting alumni on their roster who always take the time to talk to our players and are so kind and encouraging toward them.”

One of those Sting alumni is former Texas Tech forward Ashleigh Williams, who met with some of the Sting players and families in attendance after the game. Williams, a two-time Big 12 First Team All-Conference player for the Red Raiders, signed with Heart of Midlothian Football Club of the Scottish Premiership in February of 2025.

The ability to mingle with not only former but also current Sting players is one of the highlights of the event for Alvarado.

“My favorite part is seeing our players, parents, and coaches from different teams interact with each other,” he said. “Events like this make our club feel like a close-knit community and help strengthen the bonds within our program.”
